Puts equity behind a searcher or an independent sponsor. Some back a search from day one and take a stake in whatever gets bought; others come in deal by deal once there is a signed letter of intent. Most have a view on industries, size, and geography, and the good ones have watched a dozen searches succeed or stall.

When you need one

Before you commit to a search if you want a funded one. Otherwise, the day you have a real target and a number, because equity closes slower than debt and every investor wants time to look at the business.

Worth asking before you work together
